Welcome! My name is Luke Tanaka, and I deeply appreciate you taking the time to visit my page. In a few words, my goals are to meet you where you are with warmth, collaboration, and curiosity. I invite you to read more about who I am and how I work. I hope to connect with you soon and would be honored to be a part of your journey.
Clinical Approach
I prioritize bringing a compassionate presence to each session with the intention of building a safe container that welcomes children, teens, and adults of all backgrounds to explore and express their authentic selves.
I believe that therapy is a collaborative space and I tailor my approach to each client’s goals, strengths, and needs.
My passion for helping people informs my desire to accompany clients as they navigate life’s challenges, gain self-understanding and self-compassion, and cultivate tools that they can take into their daily lives. All while enjoying moments of lightness, play, laughter, and celebration along the way.
I welcome clients of all backgrounds and experiences. I practice cultural humility, meaning that I am dedicated to openness, curiosity, and respect for my clients’ identities and cultural experiences. This also means that I engage in continuous self-reflection on my own identities and how they impact my work with clients. I am intentional about honoring and learning my clients’ experiences with the identities that make them who they are.
I particularly enjoy creating therapeutic spaces where neurodiverse clients can be themselves, explore how they learn and see the world, and identify strengths, challenges, and underlying factors impacting their lives. With each client, I strive to work on individual, family, and systemic levels to help clients create the sustainable change they want in each of these domains.
About Me
I am a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC #16047) and Registered Associate Marriage & Family Therapist (AMFT #145647), supervised by TheraThrive’s Clinical Director, Katie Malone, LPCC, LMFT. I also have a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Dominican University of California.
When I’m not in the office, you’ll find me playing softball or tennis, cheering on my favorite sports teams, hiking the beautiful Bay Area trails, or breathing deeply in a yoga class. As an athlete, I am passionate about destigmatizing therapy, particularly in sports spaces.
